Animal Advocates Society of BC rescued that old chained dog one dark, cold night on the day we were told about her. We made the video in the hope that it would encourage others to rescue a yard dog. Many distraught people have told us that it did give them the courage to remove a dog from its misery and give it a loving home. Ten years on a chain, no blanket, not toy, not even a bone. Often no food or water. Animal Advocates Society of BC first saw this abused and neglected dog at night, lying in the frozen mud in her own feces, being snowed and sleeted on. Neighbours said that her owners urinated on her from the porch. Several upset neighbours told AAS that they had phoned the British Columbia SPCA many times, for many years. Not just to take it easy at home on the couch. Instead you change into a rescue suit and head out on the sea to train in extreme conditions. This is the life of a volunteer sea rescuer including evenings and weekends all year round. Madeleine and Staffan are two of our over 2000 volunteers that work along the Swedish coast. All together the sea rescuers dedicate thousands of hours of their own free time on exercises so that you can feel safe when you are out with your boat. 19 abandoned dogs were left to die but THS stepped up once again and brought all 19 dogs to safety over a week long rescue.

On Tuesday, Jan. 21, the ASPCA shut down a large, substandard breeding facility - frequently referred to as a puppy mill - in Nancy, KY, and transported 43 dogs and 2 cats to the Kentucky Humane Society in Louisville. Over the next few days the animals will receive medical care and behavior help from the ASPCA and KHS' veterinary, shelter services and behavioral teams. Once they are ready for adoption, KHS will help them find loving homes.
